Need help with inbox and INBOX.db

I am having a problem with one email account and Neomail. On this 
account the inbox starting coming up empty. I checked the mail file in 
the var/spool/mail and the messages are all there, but they are not 
displaying. I went into the neomail folder for this user and renamed 
the INBOX.db thinking that it might rebuild the index. Now, all I get 
when I login as this user is an error message about a server error or 
misconfiguration. I put the original INBOX.db back, however, I still 
get the same error. Can anybody help with this dilemma? TIA
