Always getting Invalid Login message after upgrade

Hello,

I'm not new to Neomail, but I have not had to post a message for help 
before, and I'm stumped.  I have successfully run version 1.21 of 
Neomail on FreeBSD 2.2.5 for quite a while now.  I have now upgraded to 
FreeBSD 4.8 release, ver. 5.8.4 of Perl, and version 1.27 of Neomail.  
After a little bit of working with the Perl, I am now getting the login 
window, however, no matter what I do, I always get the invalid login 
message when I try to log in.  Since I'm using FreeBSD, I am using 
master.passwd for the passwd file, and I've tried a few other suggested 
things with the permissions from looking at the FAQ and other posts, 
but I'm still not able to get it to work.  Is Neomail really able to 
decrypt the passwd file in version 4.8 release of FreeBSD?  I can't 
think of why anything else is not working unless I have something else 
that is broken on my system.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
