Neomail *is* able to read FreeBSD's /etc/master.passwd file, I am using it 
on 4 or 5 servers at the moment. To be honest, I have no idea what is 
wrong with your system. You mentioned before that you have been mixing 
something up in perl, maybe this is causing problems? Try to use system 
base perl instead of the one installed from the ports.
