Question about an email

I was hoping to maintain an email as new, so that the subject line stayed 
bold. I was testing whether or not i could accomplish this by sending the 
email from the inbox to the inbox, and now the email is completely gone, i 
cannot find it in any of the folders. Anyone have any ideas??
