Junk Mail Coming to My Inbox

Everyday I check my email I see some mail that someone has sent to me that I
don't know. Is there a filter that can eliminate receiving this mail. I dont
like Junk Mail and I want to know if there is a control out there that can
prevent this junk from getting into my Inbox?
