Re: suid error

Q. I just installed NeoMail on my new RedHat 8 system (or) I just upgraded
my RedHat install to RedHat 8, and neoMail stopped working. What happened?
Can I fix this? I get an error message that looks like this:
Insecure dependency in open while running setgid at
/path/to/your/neomail.pl line 2775.

A. RedHat 8 shipped with a a newer version of perl, which seems to have
broken backward compatibility on some taint checks. There is a
user-contributed patch (Thanks, Jonathan!) available here: neomail.pl.patch.
Grab the patch. Now, BACK UP YOUR NEOMAIL.PL FILE. Make a note of the
ownership and mode of neomail.pl as well. Now, install it against your
neomail.pl ("man patch" if you don't know how to use the patch command).
Then, make sure the user & group modes on your neomail.pl file are set back
up properly. Hopefully this issue will be addressed in a future NeoMail
version.

hope that helps. if that dosent do anything, you might need to download an
MD5.pm legacy file like i did which is at

also, the new perl shipped with redhat 8 has a bug when it comes to .db
files and if you find that messages moved into folders other than inbox are
corrupt or not being displayed currently, you will probably have to
downgrade perl to perl-5.6.1-34.99.6. let me know if you still have problems
