My apologies for not respnding sooner.

I occasionally run into the same problem; my "solution" has been to
edit the offending message on the server and remove the offending line.
I fully admit this is a ridiculous solution and isn't available for most
people.

While I respect people who fight the good fight and want to fix the problem
upstream, I do feel like we have to ultimately deal with longer lines.
Part of me wants to rework the whole I/O system to deal with this, but
that's a large project that I just don't have time for now.  I suspect
we should just multiply the current limit by 4 and that would be good
enough for 99% of the cases we encounter.
