Actually, "re:" is the only standard; it is defined in RFC 2822 and earlier documents. Sadly, some people do not read the RFCs, and rely upon folklore instead. The people who sent things like AW and SV think that they are "translating English into my language". "re:" is Latin, not English. There is no standard for "fwd:". There may be folklore (such as the alt.sysadmin.recovery that you mentioned), but there are multiple folklores.
