Trying to compare two pinercs, to figure out a repeatable delay

I'm trying to narrow down whether the delays I see starting up pine (I see
the waiting for 30 seconds and usually waiting for 60 seconds message every
time I start up pine) are actually somehow related to my own settings.
(I think it may be a combination of both my settings and something weird
with my server, since another mail client, GNUMail, also takes a very long
time to start up.)

I started on a new user account and started up pine.. After configuring
the minimal things like my mail server, pine comes up VERY fast.

At one point in the process of adding a few settings at a time and quitting
and restarting, I *did* have the slowdown happening repeatably on the 'new'
config. But then undoing what I thought was my last change didn't undo the
slowdown.

I mostly started over, and now I have the majority of the settings copied
over, and my original setup (whether I use a remote config or my .pinerc)
does the slowdown.. and the new settings (starting up pine with the -p option)
aren't slow.

Diffing the two files, I see that lots of settings are in a different
order. Also, my orig .pinerc says
# Updated by Pine(tm) 4.21, copyright 1989-1999 University of Washington.

but the new one (started clean from 4.62) doesn't say what version it was
created with.

I guess I could simply remove any comments and blank lines, and sort each
file to diff them easier?

Basically -- I'm still repeatedly getting a delay from one of them, and not
from the other.. and I've started and quit each one multiple times, it
doesn't seem like some kind of throttling on the server end if I connect too
often or anything like that.

Does anybody have any other ideas on how to easily diff these two
settings files and/or an idea of what could be causing these delays??
