There is always this patch for now: http://www.math.washington.edu/~chappa/pine/info/utf8.html I've been using it with Pine for ages and never had any problems. Being Greek, I get half my mails in iso-8859-7 and the other half in utf-8, so it's quite annoying to switch charsets continuously. Another side-effect is that it's not like e.g. German or Spanish, where you just miss umlauts/accents but you are still able to understand what the email is about. If you receive a Greek email with the wrong charset, it's completely incomprehensible.
