Generating unique hash for each message in mailbox

I want to use an external program to generate a unique hash for each
email in my Pine mailbox.

However, I don't want the hash to change if I use Pine's "Flag"
feature. I also don't want the hash to change when Pine does any
trivial maintenance on mailbox. For example, I think Pine sometimes
renumbers UIDs or something.

Hashing the body almost works, but I sometimes receive different
messages w/ the same body.

Example: if I ask my bank the question "foo" via bank mail, I get an
email later [not auto-reply] with subject "Your question 'foo' has
been answered", but the body is a fixed form letter that doesn't
mention 'foo'.

Question: what's the best way to do this? Does Pine guarentee that it
will own change certain headers (X-Status and X-UID?) and leave others
alone? Or are there other headers Pine could change even though the
message efefctively remains the same? Should I use a fixed set of
headers (eg: Date, Subject, To, etc?) instead of trying to exclude
headers that might change?
