Use of Filter rules for news, slow

I'd occasionally used a filter rule (M-S-R-F)in the past as a killfile
when reading news. The rule had

Current Folder Type = Folder List = {mewsserver/nntp}#news.groupname (2)
>From pattern = list of addresses (2 or 3)
Filter Action = Delete

Now I wanted to add a new rule to discard news articles which are
cross-posted to some other newsgroup (since they are just disturbances)

I created a new rule similar to the above, but instead of the From
pattern, I used

News pattern = it.discussioni.litigi

(i.e. messages posted to the groups in Folder List and crossposted to the
latter group are marked as deleted)

Now the new rule seems to be taking much longer to execute than the other
rule based on From (actually I originally put both patterns in the same
rule, and that was taking even longer).

Any idea of the reason why it is taking long ? How to speed up ?
