Alpine is just the next generation of Pine. UTF8 for example is well
supported (I think it is also the default charset in alpine). I think
Alpine as a "Pine 5.xx" version.

In my case, it uses the .pinerc configuration file just fine.

I do not think this will cause any problem. But just in case, backups
are good(tm).
