Need full command-line pine send with attachments

Folks,

I'm looking for a command line email, for Mac OSX 10.4.10, to send
simple emails with an attachment file. This is for backing up stuff on
gmail, large tar.gz files, to give you the context. Might as well use
the nearly 3GB Google provide.

The syntax I need is completely command line .. eg

pine  -subject  "Backup of xyz ddmmyy" -attach xyz.tar.gz  [email protected]

I've got pine working, by dint of putting

user-domain=gmail.com
smtp-server=mail.bigpond.com

into a .pinerc,  and lauchning ..

pine [email protected] -attach xyz.tar.gz

but can't avoid being thrown in the text-based gui to complete the send

Can I get this to run command-line only ?
