While that is good and all, Alpine is not even considered beta software
yet, according to http://www.washington.edu/alpine/. While I will gladly
test software, there is no way I will risk alpha/beta software with
e.mail. I find e.mail to be too valuable to risk testing new apps on it.
I'll gladly make a new user account, and have all mail copied to it so I
can test apps out, but for general use, Pine, stable, is what I use. If
bugs are being fixed in Alpine that are not being backported to Pine, that
seems a bit odd.

I would personally say that Pine should be moved out of the way/not
maintained once Alpine has gone to production [eg: not alpha or beta]. I
know the developers are doing this on their own time, so I don't expect
new features in Pine 4.x, but bug fixes and security fixes, if there
indeed there is the need for them, should be made available for Pine
users.
