I had similar problems wrt. 10.4 and 10.5 (using the same networked home
directory).  This was before Leopard shipped, so I couldn't talk about
it in explicit terms.. (I think I may have made vague mention that it
worked on some of my machines and not others.)

I never figured out exactly what the cause was, but it seemed to be something
in my keychain settings.  You can have both a 'login' keychain and a
keychain with your username.  IIRC, the 'login' keychain is from older OS X
versions, and my total vague guess is that something didn't propogate 
properly between the keychains.  At some point it suddenly started working
for me too.. If I were able to figure out the exact cause of the problem, I'd
write up a bug.
