The output from procmail -v gives the system mailbox:

Note the last line.

Doesn't look like it.

As far as the speller issue, there is someone on the fedora-test(?) list 
that posted the identical problem with alpine 0.9999... and now I can't 
find it.

Initially, after the update, invoking spellcheck came up with 
"Spell-checking file "" not found". After rebooting for an unrelated 
problem I started getting the termination message.

.pine-debug4 shows (in part):speller : /usr/bin/aspell --dont-backup 
--mode=email check

even though alpine Setup Configure shows:
Speller                           = <No Value Set>

Now I'm *really snowed.
