I recall reading a message (typical 1-line followup by djb) that said
something like "That's how I would do it; the next version of qmail will
likely include this", but since it didn't quote any of the message discussing
it, it's hard to find the original.

The closest I have in my archive easily found is this message from djb, from
January 1999:
