The code is now public domain.  You can't relicense it (that would be
meaningless -- read stallman on what public domain means) but you may
use it freely without any restriction, including using any license you
like on whatever application, you write, which incorporates any portion
of the code.

Questions of licensing/naming are discussed in those two threads (and a
couple of others I think).

The qmail name is not going to be used by agreement on the list and out
of respect for Dan Bernstein -- but not for any legal reason. Here is a

for making qmail public domain:

Russ Nelson and "the gang" released netqmail 1.06 on Nov 30 ---

which is essentially the same as 1.05 but with minimal patches applied

Russ Nelson told me that he and the gang will put out netqmail 1.07
"shortly" with TLS and AUTH integrated.
