I'm not against containers (and this does look interesting), but I've gotten pretty far without needing containers for this sort of thing. Instead, I use a cross-platform Unix package manager to build binary packages for what I need, with the build options I need, on just about any Unix. The package management system is called "pkgsrc". I happen to be the maintainer for the qmail package, and I'll be presenting my work at pkgsrcCon next month in Berlin: http://pkgsrc.org/pkgsrcCon/2018/#presentations Anyone with an interest in package management challenges is welcome to register and attend pkgsrcCon. It's free, low-key, and informal: http://pkgsrc.org/pkgsrcCon/2018/#registration - Amitai
