vmailmgr was always the competitor for vpopmail -- and still is.

s/qmail provides a native recipient interface for vpopmail and vmailmgr in case local maildirs do exist.
Thus, those accounts are initially accepted for SMTP RCPT TO:

Do you expect more?

Apart from that: Since you use Dovecot as IMAP server, s/qmail also has a authentication hook for that.

Check s/qmail's documentation on-line.
