I used qmail for many years, great program. When I began using 64 bit 
Linux qmail was no longer viable for me. Now I use Postfix and Dovecot 
because "it just works" and I never have to patch it.

I tried several times to install Erwin Hoffman's apparently very good 
software but I couldn't understand the writings (I can't say manuals) 
and so was never successful.

The best I can see is if you're good with qmail you should do something. 
If you choose not to do something I'm pretty sure you're not going to 
find any "new blood" ready to assemble new pieces from old.
