How about not declaring APOP support in POP3 server? qmail-ldap does not
support it.

You could also update IMAP capability defaults in qmail-imapd.rules.
UIDPLUS extension is supported by courier-imap.

MSA and SMTP over SSL rules and daemontool scripts can be useful too.
