In between I found seriailmail-auth.patch and applied it on my serialmail
package, but when I try to connect to my mail server, the smtp-send script (for
invoking maildirsmtp) fails:

bash-2.05b# smtp-send
serialsmtp: fatal: unable to authenticate to server
serialsmtp: fatal: unable to authenticate to server
serialsmtp: fatal: unable to authenticate to server
maildirserial: fatal: making no progress, giving up

Any idea what can I debug next in order to see what's going on?
