Hi,

Ask works fine to filter spam out. But it does not decrease amount of
spam, because smtp accepts spam and spammers. Amount of spam is
increasing all the time. Only way to decrease spam is reject spam at
smtp time. Ask can be used to make spammers life hard!

Look for instance Spamassiing at smtp time, < URL:
http://marc.merlins.org/linux/exim/sa.html >

Have anybody thougth how ask would work with sendmail at smtp-time?
1) when sender is in the white list, accept mail, that is no change in
sendmail procedure
2) when sender is not in the white list - that is new sender, potential
spammer - then sendmail returns status "450: mailbox unavailable untill
sender has confirmed his/her return address", sendmail rejects mail and
ask sends confirmation to the sender.

Now real senders can find out immediately that they must confirm their
email-address and it is very easy to do wright a way. Real sender can
resend thair mail in same session after confirmation is done.

Spammers forge their return address and they can't confirm. Because
spammer's smtp thinks that recipients address does not work, recipient
won't get any spam from that spammer any more. World is saved, thanks of
ask!

Folks, what you think of the idea? Ask works much better at smtp time
than SA. How hard this would be to configure and test?

BR, Reijo Korhonen
