installation

hello,

i have tried this for half a day now, and must be missing one whee
bit to get it to work.

here is my .forward file :
-rw-------    1 ingo     ingo           84 Sep 23 20:02 .forward

this is in it:
|"/usr/bin/ask.py --loglevel=5 --logfile=/home/ingo/.ask/ask.log --home=/home/ingo"

ask.py is where it should be:
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         3547 May 24 17:27 /usr/bin/ask.py

sendmail is running (chkconfig):
sendmail       	0:off	1:off	2:on	3:on	4:on	5:on	6:off
but there is NO executable sendmail anywhere. only sendmail.sendmail.
guess the daemon knows that ... :-)
do i even NEED sendmail. i just installed it know, thinking ask may need 
it, or the .forward mechanism may not work without ... ???

and when i pipe some dead.letter file into ask.py it DOES show up in my 
mailbox.

i use fetchmail to retrieve mails from the server:

set daemon  60 
poll        pollux.wzw.tum.de
protocol    pop3
user        ingo
pass        xxxxxxxxx
keep

but all my mails are completely lost. not even a log file.
as soon as i delete the .forward file, they come through, again.
as soon as i put it back in, they disappear.

what am i doing wrong ???
