The machine I run ASK on is a debian woody too. It had python 2.1.3
installed too (this is the default version). I _remotely_ upgraded it
to python2.2 (since this package is available too in woody) without a
hitch.

Theoritically, you can even have both 2.1.3 and 2.2 installed at the
same time on debian woody, and I think it should be ok.
