To respond to the last item first: both 'have' and 'are'. I _may_ be pointed out to be opinionated about your first question ;-) , so I'd rather have someone else answer this. Nevertheless... I can give you a list of subjects (use of technology / stability / error tolerance / support base) which I think are very relevant for choosing which one to use, but better be brief for now: my current advise is to use the GerH build for its binaries and use the mail*.crm scripts from the original. Why? because the GerH builds have been tested on 64-bit and contain fixes which are not in the mainline, while my mail*.crm scripts are currently in a state of flux as I only started using those (recall that I do _not_ use crm114 for mail filtering but for completely different purposes). GerH CSS files are not binary compatible with the CSS files accepted by 64-bit mainline crm114, but then the future mainline crm114 will probably not accept its own CSS files when it has been 'fixed' for 64-bit entirely unless Bill does something very smart. The latter means you should read up on the documentation about recreating and learning bulk mail using mailreaver + mailtrainer anyway, so you are able to recreate your CSS files any time in the future from the original material: your emails. Which is sound 'backup/recovery' advise for _any_ system.
