The latter as this was never intended as a fork. There are a few major
differences though, the most important one the use of GNU
'autoconfiscation tools', i.e. the use of a

./configure

script to configure the build for the target platform/machine.

Technically that means the 'makefiles' are quite a bit different from
the original.

In reality, the GerH builds are based on work by Joost van Baal in
2003-2004 and others who already did some of the Win32 (Microsoft
Windows) porting - which is another important item in the GerH builds.

Agreed. Though I don't know how long that's going to take as its rife
with all sorts of technological details that can give people a rash.

Good. I'll keep y'all up-to-date on the progress regarding the GerH
builds at least, so you may get a bit of a 'feel' about what's going
on there if you follow the conversations on the ML as you do.


If you find a bit of time once in a while I'd be much obliged if you
would at least download and try to compile and maybe run a gerH build
once in a while: all (bug/success)reports are much appreciated as we
can use the help.
