Yeah, doubled slashes were an unfortunate thing (how *does* one
escape them?)

That's why the new versions have a (documented even) feature that 
allows [/path/in/boxes/no/escapes/needed.txt] style filenames for
all the places that might have used a /\/boy\/this\/sucks\// path.
