Question for email gurus: email threads and CRM114

I thought email threads were 'tracked' by email readers using the
Message-Id: (and In-Reply-To:) headers.

Quick google pops up this:

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but assume you've crm114 in your mail
chain (and add_headers option turned ON), wouldn't mailreaver's
appending (and thus changing) of the Message-Id header then break such
email threads (shown by email readers which supports threads view) as
this editing of the 'globally unique Id' would not feed back to
previous emails in the threads (both in your own and other folks'
email boxes)? Or are mailreaders tolerant enough to gloss over this
one?

Does anyone have production site experience with this (I'm talking
multi-user setups here, where you'd actually have a help desk to
harrass when you are Mr. User)
