Is anyone using autoconf before 2.59, or automake before 1.10?

I'm using Joost's old autoconf work to try to update the latest pre-release version of CRM114 to be autoconfiscated: but I'm noticing some surprises when I move from Ubuntu 8.10 to CentOS 5. In particular, there are demands to re-run autoconf and automake due to its use of older versions of those packages, and complaints about not having autoconf tools for 'AC_UINT32_T' and the like. In order to support portability, what is the oldest autoconf and automake being used by any interested developers?
