1.08 vanilla doesn't segfault.

The only thing I did was add #define __USE_GNU right before "#include
<signal.h>", since sighandler_t isn't defined on my system (gentoo
2004.2, generic modern linux glibc) otherwise.

Wouldn't gnu autoconf make things much less prone to that kind of
breakage?
