When I hang out in some newsgroups where the 'rituals' of doing
everything just like you are 'supposed to' -- in an environment that is
actually so called "highly organized anarchy" -- those folks have all
kinds of ideas about how things are /supposed/ to be done.

Personally, I just do it however I like.  If the subject is too long, I
trim off the end of it.  If I don't want to use 'Was:' I use the
previous message's attribution and cite marks, and copy and paste that
into an entirely new message created from scratch and with an entirely
new subject.

In an environment of anarchy, I figger I can do it however suits me.

There are disadvantages to the References line getting too long for some
systems, so if you are trying to keep a thread's subthreads alive just
to see how many branches a tree can have, then it might get to have too
many.
