Louisiana was Louisiana long before the LA purchase.  FWIW the Florida
Parishes extended into much of what is now Mississippi and beyond.  The
original deed grant does not reference Mississippi but Louisiana and what's
left of the place is now in Mississippi.

Actually in the area of in question French Settlement is EAST of I-10.
