Actually proxomitron is a speedy app.  It sits in the corral and you
can turn it on/off or set it to ignore certain sites.  I just run it
on the same box I use daily.  There are a few bugs, some sites don't like
it, but those are few.  I proxy all the web browsing through it with no
ill effects.  Although I do keep IE directly connected for those sites that
just won't handle firefox.

Don't know of any similar tool for firefox.
