I'll feel bad until the day I die. I had a lady friend whom followed me into 
the woods on a trip we hadn't any business taking. She has - even this many 
year later, a number of symptoms such as fatigue and stiffness of joints. 
She has them bad enough to ensure that they have her in a wheelchair. She 
went with me while we stomped through the woods for a couple of days. She 
was, and is, a friend but a big girl who felt she couldn't tell us about the 
feeling like something was biting her. We were kids, she went home - this 
was maybe 1995 and Lyme was barely heard of in Maine - and today she's still 
screwed.

We folks who, not for Lyme but for simplicity, swum and saw them and pulled 
them off. We asked and she said no and she was one of the few females there. 
She's been my friend since, still, and etc but, well, I'll ask - if there's 
a place - for her to share besides here. Since then there are two things I 
strongly support... Breast cancer research (I'm a guy - duh! Support that!) 
and awareness of Ticks. Err... My only other socially conscious thing to do 
is give blood. (Err... And report SPAM.)

You seem impassioned. Got a URL where I can send her? It won't help me. I'm 
comfortable being guilty. I did tell her no - not to come with us on this 
trip. But no. I didn't, she didn't, no one expected her to say no. We really 
did NOT know and you'd be amazed (well, maybe not you) how many people still 
don't understand.

The rest of us are fine. I'm not a doctor but she tested positive and is 
treated even still all these years later. She's 31 now and she's still 
having troubles walking all the time. It is serious enough to warrant all 
the attention it can get. If there's a URL where she can share her story or 
something I'll tell her and she probably will.
