If the Bush administration truly believes that, it should propose amendments, 
make its case to the people, and then see if they are ratified.

Rights for criminal defendants aren't there to protect the criminals, they're 
there to protect the _innocent_ from the government.

It's obvious that this data collection has nothing to do with protecting the 
nation from terrorists. The government already had the power to do wiretaps and 
collect data regarding terrorist threats under FISA. These programs are about 
finding and intimidating journalists, whistleblowers, and political opponents..
