1. Excellent fertilizer for everything from hay to crops;

2.  Evidence of a functional farm; or there wouldn't be as much;

3.  And, a little inconsiderate.  Most around here check which 
way the wind's blowing before they do that near homes.  It won't 
last long fortunately.

The really rotten smeling stuff is when they spread a winter's 
worth of it that's been piling up and composting for near 6 
months - THAT can have a LOT of smelly gases in it, not to 
mention ammonia!  Usually they'll spread those in the back fields 
away from roads and houses.

For me though; it's a memory-lane walk.  I was taken in by dairy 
farmers when I was 12; worked it til I was 17.  Now it's a sheep 
farm.
