If I do tell it where to find the library then it finds the headers and library and compiles fine. Could you do the following for me: 1. start with a clean directory tree 2. run configure with no arguments 3. send me the config.log file 4. repeat 1-3 but with the --with-db=wherever argument I want to see what configure is doing.
