I let that go for a long time too.  It might be a good idea to put a note
somewhere in the docs that a cleanup cron job will actually improve
performance since I think it's easy to assume that letting the DB grow huge
could be a good thing.  

My cron job is just:
3 0 * * * /usr/local/bin/spamprobe cleanup

My DB is 36mb and I guess it's about a year old.

I'm using a berkely DB and really enjoy being able to do "spamprobe -T
score".
