Rebuilding SpamProbe database

Hi,

what is the best way to clean (i.e., export and import) a SpamProbe 
database to reduce
its size?

Some readme.txt suggests using

cd ~
mkdir new.spamprobe
spamprobe export | spamprobe -d new.spamprobe import
mv .spamprobe old.spamprobe
mv new.spamprobe .spamprobe

Is this feasible on a production system where mail can come in at any 
time? I've
experienced serious issues with that (SpamProbe hanging, qmail lockups, 
destroyed
SpamProbe databases). It seems that SpamProbe doesn't like this kind of 
rebuilding
while it is running, at least with BerkeleyDB.

Is it possible to include this kind of rebuild into SpamProbe itself so that
the usual locking mechanism is used while this is done? I know that 
rebuilding
is usually not a good idea (database will grow back to original size 
anyway),
but once in a while I still want to do that, even on a production system.
