Seems to be working here. First I exported the original pbl database,
and then imported it as a hash file, using the -d hash:path switch. This
produced a hash database in HOME/.spamprobe alongside the original pbl
file. (Don't know if this is the right thing to do but it seemed to
work.)

Now, spamprobe -V shows:
SpamProbe v1.1x6 using DBM-pbl-cached database.

And spamprobe -d hash:/home/ac/.spamprobe -V  shows:
SpamProbe v1.1x6 using Hashed-array-cached database.

So I assume you can choose either database according to which switch you use.
I'm still testing this to see how well it works in practice.
