PBL and BDB are functionally identical as far as SP is concerned. 
However, in my personal experience PBL was slightly faster and required 
significantly less maintenance.  BDB databases tend to grow endlessly 
even when the net number of terms in the database remains constant.  PBL 
doesn't have that problem.

There are some platforms on which PBL won't compile but for BSD, Linux, 
etc PBL is the way to go IMHO.
