For consistency then there should a "bad" alias for "spam".

You could use a parent program that launches spamprobe as a child
process. If the spamprobe process dies unexpectedly, the parent process
would simply copy the original mail to stdout.
The parent program would be quite simple and, most importantly, would
not have any file locks or database connections pending, so it should be
crash resistent.
