Something like
NAME=tmda-ofmipd
   [ -s /var/run/$NAME.pid ]  &&  kill -15 `cat /var/run/$NAME.pid`
   ret=$?
   [ $ret = 0 ]  &&  rm /var/run/$NAME.pid
