One thing to note:

The -p option isn't used in "-1" mode. -p tells tmda-ofmipd which port
to listen for new connections on. However, in "-1" mode, tmda-ofmipd
does no listening. Not that it hurts; the value simply is ignored.

Of course, if you're testing tmda-ofmipd from the command-line, hence
not using -1 mode, then any -p value is used and could be useful.

Re: Needing -p when testing outside xinetd, perhaps the vpopmail user
doesn't have read access to one of:

/etc
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/hosts
...

Assuming of course that your hostname (run "hostname") is actually in
DNS or /etc/hosts...
