I honestly don't know what that last filter line is supposed to do. I
don't think it's a Python variable expansion; that would typically look
like %(variable_name)s - note the brackets and s a the end. That said, I
 wonder if an older version of TMDA might have supported that alternate
variable expansion syntax? In that case, and if the AMS_MESSAGE_SUBJECT
variable exists and was empty, I guess that could be your problem.
