If you configure your client to send mail through TMDA (either 
tmda-ofmipd, or the /usr/bin/sendmail wrapper), then mail is being sent 
through TMDA.

If you don't configure your mail client according to the instructions, 
mail is still being sent directly through whatever mechanism it was 
before you installed TMDA.
