-----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Todd A. Jacobs Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2008 5:22 PM To: TMDA Users Subject: Bounces vs. new messages Over the past year, Charter (may they all rot in purgatory) has begun blocking outbound TMDA challenges with "relay not allowed" messages. So, this is really a set of questions: - Is TMDA issuing challenges as bounces? - Is it possible to reconfigure TMDA to issue challenges as reply messages rather than bounces? For the curious, I've found this perlism useful for spotting these messages in my mail logs: sudo perl -ne '/(?<=550 relaying mail to ).*?(?=is not allowed)/ && print "$&\n"' /var/log/mail.log{,.0} | sort -u but TMDA doesn't really have any insight into the logs, and so this is mostly informational for me. Perhaps it will be helpful to others as well. -- [me] It could be that you need to use their smart host instead? That is, they may be blocking all unauthenticated relay mail, so if you use a smart-host, you will be able to authenticate to them. Or, get another ISP. Since you're using residential service on a dynamic IP, then shame-on-you: you should get "real" service on a static IP address. For example, my regular mail server will not accept *any* mail from you whatsoever, as your IP address is listed as dynamic. Its about time that ISPs start blocking all mail from dynamic IPs in order to mitigate the home idiots with no antivirus that spew forth spam.
